How is this political work?
How is this political work?
This initiative prioritizes social and environmental objectives over profit motives. People and the environment are prioritized over profit, thus aiding in the current issue of food accessibility and waste.
The lens through which you view issues creates your narrative of thought process. We all have them, and the information we have access to establishes this narrative. With the community fridge, some examples we are working to fight the narrative of include:
hunger is due to the person experiencing it, rather than the system at large.
poverty can only be fought through governmental or employer action.
Instead, we aim to create a new narrative: if no one else is looking out for people, we can.
Political imagination allows us to challenge political norms. Affordable food has become less common, and thus more people are in need. By utilizing political imagination, visualization of what might be possible to shift comes to life. This fridge's political participation model creates a space where mutual aid benefits all members involved. With this, accessible free food in a community in need became a solution!
Community fridges epitomize mutual aid as they operate on the principle of neighbors supporting one another through shared resources, donations, and access to essential food items.
